The Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant in downtown Silver Spring bears the name of a hominid called Australopithecus afarensis.  The world’s most famous early human ancestor, Lucy is about 3.18 million years old. Lucy was found by Donald Johanson  and Tom Gray on November 24, 1974, at the site of Hadar in Ethiopia. Lucy is named for the Beatles’ song  “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” which was repeatedly played during the celebration over her discovery.
